Age-Friendly Festival Volunteer Opportunities

Even as we count down to October 28th during these final days,
we are always actively recruiting volunteers to join us in
the nation's first Age-Friendly Festival.

And, yes, we can find a role for you that fits your interests!
On Friday, October 27, and Saturday, October 28, 2017, volunteers will be needed to support the festival in a variety of roles and shifts at the Sarasota Fairgrounds. Community service hours will be available for youth, and there will be a need for bilingual volunteers. 
Volunteers are vital to the success of the Age-Friendly Festival and, more importantly, to driving our community’s age-friendly movement to build a livable community for all ages.

Volunteer Position Descriptions

Friday, October 27, 2017 (day before festival)

  • Set Up Super Crew: Volunteers are needed to help with set up on Friday, October 27, in preparation for the festival. Set up will include setting up tables, chairs, and booths; assisting and directing exhibitors; and assisting with other details as needed. Desired attributes include being able to do fast-paced task-oriented work, lift up to 50 pounds, and work indoors and outdoors.

Saturday, October 28, 2017

  • Greeters: Located at the entry and exit points of the Age-Friendly Festival, Greeters will serve as the “Ambassadors” to the AFF attendees by welcoming and thanking attendees for attending. May include distributing materials and exit surveys. Desired attributes include being friendly and outgoing, having an excited-to-assist attitude, and being able to work indoors and outdoors.
  • Wayfinders: Located throughout the Age-Friendly Festival at strategic points, Wayfinders will help attendees to navigate the AFF and to experience all that the AFF has to offer, including highlighting experiences and entertainment in real time. Desired attributes include being friendly and outgoing and able to work indoors and outdoors.
  • Exhibitor Relations: The Exhibit portion of the Age-Friendly Festival will showcase practices, services, and products — by businesses, nonprofits, and local government —  that advance age-friendly principles in the community and beyond. Volunteer tasks will include answering questions, assisting, and being a liaison between the exhibitors and attendees. Desired attributes include being friendly and outgoing and having an excited-to-assist attitude.
  • Entertainment Relations: Multiple “stage hands” will be needed to assist the Stage Manager throughout the entertainment area. Desired attributes include being able to transition the entertainment stage areas, multitask, and stand and lift items while working outdoors.
  • Experiences Relations: Located in several spots throughout the Sarasota Fairgrounds, multiple volunteers will be needed to assist the Experiences Team Leader. Experiences will consist of hands-on activities that demonstrate ways to enhance quality of life. Desired attributes include being able to multitask, help direct the presenters and attendees, and stand and lift items while working outdoors.
  • Education Relations: Volunteers will be needed to assist the Education Team Leader in the Ken Clark Auditorium with the flow of presentations on a variety of topics throughout the day. Volunteers will be assisting presenters in a concierge way and helping transition the education area. Desired attributes include being friendly and outgoing and able to multitask.
  • Parking & Bus Greeters: Located in the parking areas of the Sarasota Fairgrounds, parking and bus greeters will serve as the initial welcoming committee to Age-Friendly Festival attendees as they depart their vehicles and head into the Festival. Desired attributes include being outgoing and friendly and able to work outdoors.
  • Reflection Lounge Concierges: Concierges will be needed to work in comfort lounges throughout the festival by welcoming and engaging festival attendees, answering questions, and keeping lounges tidy. Desired attributes includes being friendly and outgoing.
  • Survey and Metrics Greeters: This position is for those that love engaging with others and collecting data. Volunteers will work with the metrics lead. Desired attributes include being friendly and outgoing and able to work indoors and outdoors.
  • Floaters: Location will vary (indoors and outdoors). Floaters will “float” throughout the event depending on needs. Desired attributes include being able to multitask, enjoying fast-paced change, and being willing to assist with any of the volunteer areas listed above.
  • Golf Cart Drivers: MUST be 18 years old and have a valid Florida Driver's License. Volunteers will be driving attendees from parking areas to entrances and exits. Along with being a good and courteous driver, desired attributes include being warm and helpful to attendees.
  • Energetic Engagement Engineers: Create excitement and connect the community to attend the festival by holding and twirling signs. Outdoor activity will need lots of energy and enthusiasm. Sign up with a friend for fun and laughs.
