Domains of Livability

There is one concept that is finite and never changing; it is a commonality which every human on this earth shares: Time — tick tock, tick tock…
Now that we’re living, on average, 30 years longer than our great-grandparents, AFS has begun taking action to have a lasting positive influence and impact in this longevity revolution. Here’s where personal responsibility — for ourselves, our family, our friends, neighbors, and communities — comes in. Through learning and sharing the aspirations of residents, Age-Friendly Sarasota facilitates a process for people to engage and plan for Sarasota County’s future so that every generation has the opportunity to thrive in a livable community.
Age-Friendly Sarasota strives to build a lifelong community by developing a more livable environment — FOR ALL AGES.
Collectively, we focus on the 8 Domains of Livability — interconnected domains that can help to identify and peruse possibilities for the well-being of people as they age — outlined in the World Health Organization’s age-friendly cities framework to build upon this region’s assets and citizens’ aspirations to optimize active, healthy, and engaged living for people throughout their lifespan.

The Age-Friendly Sarasota County Action Plan includes the goals, objectives, and strategies for the eight domains of livability during the plan's implementation phase (June 2017 – May 2020).
