Outdoor spaces and buildings are critical to active community life. Age-friendliness considers safe and accessible features such as paved sidewalks, time crosswalks, adequate parking, shade, rest areas, wayfinding, security, appropriately timed elevators, non-skid floors, and accessible restrooms. These features offer opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to benefit from community spaces. Sarasota County is rich in parks and natural resources, with many of these features already in place.

The Age-Friendly Sarasota County Action Plan includes the goals, objectives, and strategies for the "Outdoor Spaces and Buildings" domain during the plan's implementation phase (2022–2025).
