Some people believe that Poseidon, the god of the sea, and Aphrodite, the goddess of love, beauty, and pleasure, created Sarasota as a symbol of their powerful connection.
Ok … so maybe people don’t really believe that, but Sarasota is surrounded by beauty and home to a vast number of beaches, parks, and recreational areas for our community to enjoy.

The Age-Friendly Sarasota County Action Plan includes the goals, objectives, and strategies for the "Outdoor Spaces and Buildings" domain during the plan's implementation phase (June 2017 – May 2020).

How Can You Become Age-Friendly Today?

  • Support outdoor activities like visiting Patriot Plaza at Sarasota National Cemetery
  • Lobby for improved sidewalks and walking areas, wayfinding signs, and directories
  • Join your neighborhood association
  • Report potholes or particularly dark streets or parking lots to the neighboring business or Sarasota County Government’s Contact Center ... they might not be aware of it
  • Pick up trash that might become a potential stumbling hazard
