Suncoast Villages Unveils a New Name and a New Corporation

Effective November 6, 2021, Suncoast Villages has a new name! After an intense brainstorming process – sharing, research, review, and more brainstorming – a new name was selected. A new Florida corporation, UPLIFT Florida Network, Inc. has been registered. The purpose of UPLIFT Florida Network remains the same: To improve the well-being of our community members via a network supporting individuals thriving in community.

Its values are connection, collaboration, innovation, inclusion and excellence.

Suncoast Villages was started by a committed group of Sarasota residents who recognized that connecting with the people, activities, and community resources that enrich our lives is essential to maintaining our health and well-being as we age. This team was ably supported in their efforts by Deborah Gauvreau, a consultant with The Patterson Foundation. Originally intended to serve the Suncoast region, the benefits of networking with other areas of Florida became clear. Suncoast Villages, now UPLIFT Florida Network, is uniquely positioned to address this opportunity as a hub organization connecting people, organizations, and communities in Florida. The first organization to align itself with UPLIFT is the Neighbors Network in Lee County. Others in Florida have also expressed interest in participating with UPLIFT.

UPLIFT Florida Network, Inc. formalized its standing with the State of Florida by successfully filing its application and receiving approval from the Florida Secretary of State as a Florida corporation. Subsequent to receiving its approval as a Florida corporation, the necessary paperwork was filed with the Internal Revenue Service for UPLIFT Florida Network, Inc to become an approved 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation.

"We are very excited about the launch of UPLIFT to begin officially doing business," said Emile Gauvreau, current Chair of the UPLIFT Formation Body. We are very appreciative of the incubation support from The Patterson Foundation during our startup phase. The formation body will be moving to complete our development plans and business model and begin the process of creating our initial Board of Directors and establishing operations.
