Reinvent Yourself

Reinvent Yourself

Did you know that Americans are living an average of 30 years longer these days? One of the best aspects of this is that there is so much life yet to be lived! The structure of our lives has most of us looking to retire around age 65. This is changing worldwide as retiring from jobs and careers can evolve into working longer, second retirements, and beyond. Check out the Tip Sheet for Reinventing Yourself and get some great ideas!

According to my mother, who is 92 years young, Reinventing Yourself is not about becoming a completely different person in your personal or professional life. She thinks reinventing yourself is ensuring that instead of sitting in a rocking chair, you realize there are so many things you can do or become involved in that would enrich your life and your future years.

What a great attitude!

What’s your philosophy?

Perhaps you agree with the Administration on Aging, which is part of the Administration for Community Living, that you are never too old or too young to take part in activities that can enrich your physical, mental, and emotional well-being. So, how do you go about reenergizing or reinventing yourself? Experts advise that we think about our passions and the skills we possess and how we could combine those. Test out some areas that have always been of interest that perhaps you’ve never had time to try through volunteering. Check out volunteer websites like CreateTheGood.org and VolunteerMatch.org to find volunteer opportunities in our area. Or, search nonprofits on The Giving Partner to explore the possibilities. Maybe take one of the many classes offered by the Adult & Community Enrichment department of a local school like the Suncoast Technical College.

The important thing in life is to remain open to new experiences and to continue to learn and grow. We are lucky to live in a community that has opportunities #ForAllAges to live, work, and play. Mom says, “We may be a bit older, but think of us as seasoned with experience!” Renew, reenergize, and reinvent yourself, and life will be richer than you ever dreamed!
