Change Happens at the Speed of Trust
What happens when you ask people to take part in an online survey to help Sarasota County create priorities for the next few years? Well...there are mixed responses. Some people are very eager to share their thoughts and aspirations, and they complete the survey right away. Others are somewhat skeptical and don’t trust that their views will make a difference in our community. They decide not to complete the survey.
Recently, the Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County and Age-Friendly Sarasota (AFS) teamed up to encourage the community to complete a county-wide e-survey that will help identify priorities for Sarasota County over the next several years and help to create an Age-Friendly Sarasota Action Plan. The results of this survey can have a lasting impact on our lives and our community.
With the support of The Patterson Foundation, AFS team members are out and about in the community sharing information about the survey and the importance of completing it. You may have stopped by the AFS table during the recent ‘My Hometown Fest’ event at Benderson Park or the ‘Family Fun and Health Day’ at the North Sarasota Library. Or, you may have received an email asking you to take the survey, then to share with your friends and colleagues and encourage them to take action. Are you planning to attend ‘Inspire Sarasota’ on April 13? Be sure to stop by the Age-Friendly Sarasota table to say hi and to find out how you can help us spread the word about the survey.
A wonderful saying came to mind as I was writing this, ‘change happens at the speed of trust.’ When we allow ourselves to trust the process and become willing to share our thoughts and our voice with our community, change will begin to happen. We all have the opportunity to shape the future of our community. Let your voice count!
Have YOU completed the county survey yet? If not, don’t wait any longer.
